Hang-Up Gallery are delighted to announce their up coming show You Blow My Mind by East London based multimedia artist Lauren Baker.

The exhibition promises an intoxicating combination of neon lightning bolts, gold plated fingers, a 6ft infinity coffin and a pumping heart sculpture to name a few.

The show will take you on a journey through Baker’s Enchanted Afterlife series of beautifully hand p

ainted, embellished human and animal skulls and then onto The Storm, an appreciation of science in the form of a powerful sound and light installation set up in room two of the gallery. The production will incorporate lightning bolts, smoke and crackling thunder. The artist’s recent work is heavily inspired by the incredible power of nature and primordial energy sources. Baker explores magnetic attraction, explosive notions, and a cosmic energy connecting everyone and everything in the universe. Her creative practice of new materials results in a show that will play with all of the senses.

Baker’s work explores the relationship between life, death and afterlife - inspired by time spent in the Peruvian Amazon and the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. By experimenting with different colours and textures such as crystal and neon, the artist aims to challenge the perception of her chosen objects. Each piece holds a unique spiritual power, creating an added depth. Lauren’s work is currently in high demand in all areas of the art world, having exhibited at the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Ibiza and California.

You Blow My Mind will also feature an exciting new collaboration between Lauren Baker and artist Sequin Kay.

She has recently dressed the renowned Christmas windows of Selfridges, Harrods as well as Lilly Allen and sister Sarah Owen’s vintage clothing boutique ‘Lucy in Disguise’.

Tate Curator, Carey Robinson, says that, “Lauren Baker is exciting and fresh - she engages people in a unique and atmospheric way. An artist we’ll definitely be watching out for in 2014.”

Sponsors Bull Dog Gin will be hosting the ‘Bull-Dog Bar’ serving Hang-Up G&T’s at the exhibition’s launch.
